The elegant colors, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, including transparent face buttons and a visually distinctive floating appearance.

The Backbone One PlayStation Edition looks a lot like the original (here’s our hands-on review of that), including the same Xbox-style thumbstick layout, but with square, triangle, circle, and X buttons as opposed to the traditional A, B, X, and Y, as well as some DualSense vibes:

It features special integrations with the PlayStation and PS Remote Play app including a dedicated row with new releases and updates from PlayStation as well as the ability to automatically “deep link” gamers “into the PlayStation app to install them onto your console remotely so you can play later via PS Remote Play.” Just note you will need to do so on LTE or 5G when away from Wi-Fi. I'll have to look for that myself.Described as “unlike anything the world has ever seen,” the Backbone One PlayStation Edition is purpose built for the latest version of PS Remote Play so you can enjoy controller-based PlayStation games anywhere via iPhone (anything from the size of a 13 mini up to the 13 Max, much like the original model). It would have been nice if a storage case was included for this price. But for the First and Third Person Shooters that are currently available on IOS, racing games and PS Remote Play, this is definitely worth it. It's not a cheap device, so if you only play Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja, don't buy it. It is also recommended to connect that console to an Ethernet cable for a stable connection.Īll in all I am very satisfied with the experience. Works great, but make sure that your console at home is in the rest mode and not completely off. On location with a STRONG WiFi connection, thanks to PS Remote Play also has access to everything that is currently installed on my PlayStation.

Personally, I mainly use the Backbone One on the train and bus, with games like GTA San Andreas (once you needed a PC for that, but now you just need it in the palm of your hand) and racing games like Asphalt 8.

There is a Backbone subscription for extra functions, but this is not necessary for the basic functions and not worth the money in my opinion. The app is also a great way to discover new controller-friendly IOS games. The Backbone app is a handy way to keep all your controller-compatible apps together and serves as a home screen. An audio jack is also present, so you can just use your wired headphones. Fortunately, you can connect a Lightning charging cable to the controller. However, gaming itself does cost quite a bit of battery power, depending on your iPhone model. Slide your iPhone between the slide-out controller, click into the Lightning port and go! The Backbone does not require additional power, but pulls it from the iPhone, which is not too bad in terms of power consumption. Today's smartphones are powerful enough to run a wide variety of games, but touchscreen controls often make it less attractive. This Backbone One is the ideal way to take gaming on your iPhone to the next level.
